Our Story
Monarca is inspired by the Monarch butterfly, a symbol that migrates each year from the U.S. to Mexico. Just like the butterfly, our paletas are rooted in Mexican tradition and have spread their wings to Iowa.
Born in Michoacán, where the first paletas were made with fresh fruit and ice, we honor that heritage by bringing authentic flavors from Mexico and Latin America to the heart of Iowa.
In Mexico, Monarch butterflies are deeply tied to the Day of the Dead. Arriving each year around November 1st, they are believed to carry the spirits of loved ones returning home. This connection inspires the Día de los Muertos details you’ll see in our butterfly mural.
